Probate Fees

Full Service

Applying for the grant, collecting the assets, settling all liabilities and distributing the assets

We will handle the entire administration of the estate and exact costs will depend on the individual circumstances of the matter and the time spent by Sue Senkbeil at an hourly rate of £280 + VAT and Michelle Bysouth at an hourly rate of £240 + VAT.

We anticipate costs for a relatively small estate with an application for the grant of probate with an IHT205 to be in the region of £1,925 + VAT to £2,725 + VAT. Typically the estate can be finalised within 4-6 months.

For example, a small estate , where we handle the whole process for you, is where:

Disbursements included in this fee:

Disbursements are costs related to your matter that are payable to third parties. We handle the payment of the disbursements on your behalf to ensure a smoother process.

For a larger estate, for instance, where there is a liability to inheritance tax and a full IHT400 needs to be submitted to HMRC, the will contains the option of trust, there is no will, the estate consists of shareholdings or there is more than one property, typically our costs are in the region of £3,500 +VAT to £5,500 +VAT. A more accurate quote can be given once we have more information of the individual circumstances of the matter together with an estimate of timescale.

Dealing with the sale or transfer of any property in the estate is not included in the costs given above.

Hands held service

Applying for the grant only.

If you would like to undertake some of the work yourself, you can choose to instruct us to complete just part of the process for you.

We will help you through this difficult process by obtaining the grant of probate on your behalf, on the basis that you provide us with all the necessary information. You will then be in a position to collect all the assets, settle all outstanding liabilities and distribute the assets according to the wishes in the will. On average, the time to receipt of the grant is 3 months. If there is any inheritance tax liability, this will be due prior to the application and may be paid where possible from bank accounts held in the estate.

If you decide that you would like us to handle any further work after receipt of the grant, we would be happy to do so and would at that time, give you note of our additional costs.

Our costs for applying for the grant only are as follows:

An application with an IHT205 costs in the region of £1,050 +VAT to £1,550 +VAT

An application with an IHT400 costs in the region of £2,450 +VAT to £2,950 +VAT

Disbursements not included in this fee are:
